Great Organ - RoboSampler
At the start of the COVID-19 lock-down, many institutions closed their doors only allowing single individual access, which was impractical for sampling. Lock-down also presented an opportunity to have potentially greater access to instruments, so to overcome the access requirements we designed, built and started using automated sampling with our first prototype RoboSampler.
The first instrument fully sampled using RoboSampler, was Hexham Abbey mid 2019, and as this is a very light tracker action instrument we also found a significant benefit of the consistent key pressure was a more consistent pipe speech, and were able to adjust the key press speed and pressure to get the optimum result on every key press.
RoboSampler comes with calibrations for standard keyboards, but can be tuned to work on almost all keyboards where they may have a slightly inconsistent or non standard size. Once a calibration is tested and stored, it can be used for every rank of pipes.
- Sized for keyboards up to and including 61 notes
- A typical rank of pipes can be recorded in 12-15 minutes, which also allows sampling runs to fit nicely between any noisy clock mechanisms or chimes the building may have on the quarter hour!
- No need to re-record each rank for different release samples, just the attack sample. This cuts the time to sample a full organ, significantly.
- Robotic automated key press ensures consistent pressure and speed of note press, which is especially important for tracker instruments where pipe speech can be affected by speed of key press.

Great Organ - Loop Studio
Despite many claims by sample set producers that they use auto-looping tools, unfortunately this can lead to pretty poor results, short loops and as less than optimal result. There is simply no substitute for auditioning each individual sample loop, and choosing which loop sounds best and which is most appropriate for the rank in question from a selection of suggestions.
Whilst this makes sample looping somewhat more of an endevour than with automated tools, it allows you to be confident that each sample sounds as you want and is appropriately looped.

Great Organ - Sample Set Builder
Sample set builder allows you to take fully or partially processed samples and quickly audition them once imported through our audio engine and optionally also via VST.
Every one of our organs has ultimately had each division or the organ processed into the final sound, using this software. This has given us unrivaled ability to have confidence that our recording will ultimately accurately produce the sound we are trying to emulate.
- The Sample Set Builder tool is designed not only to build final polished sample sets but to also work as a rapid prototyping tool. It can therefore work with un-looped samples as well as looped, giving you the possibility of testing how a set of ranks will sound in the final released software.
- Building an entire organ division from folders of processed samples can be done in under ten minutes until you are able to actually hear and play the results.
- Have full control over the release samples, per rank and per pipe as necessary

Great Organ - Organ Builder
Organ builder software takes the prepared sample divisions, created by the sample set builder and allows you to turn this into flexible organ dispositions. All standard organ console functionality is available, including couplers, extensions, manual switching, floating divisions and so on.
The organ builder is primarily designed at connecting your rank divisions with individual stops, couplers, tremulants and so on, and can has two specialist modes of operation. Standard classical mode allows you to create up to 5 manual instruments, and Theatre organ mode takes special account of the very different way that ranks used and tremulants applied in such instruments as well as having the ability to recreate multiple organ chambers, eg Solo, Main etc.
